Nikki holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Victoria University of Wellington and a Master of Administrative Law and Policy from the University of Sydney. She qualified as a lawyer in New Zealand in 1989 and was admitted as a lawyer in New South Wales and the Commonwealth of Australia in 1995.
Nikki is a senior litigator with extensive trial and dispute resolution experience in the following areas:
Public, Constitutional and Bill of Rights Law
Competition, Economic Regulation and Consumer Law
Building & Construction litigation
Contract and tort disputes
Nikki worked at the Crown Law Office from 1988 to 1994 as an Assistant Crown Counsel and Crown Counsel, representing the government primarily in public and commercial/regulatory litigation. Since then, she has frequently crossed the private/public divide: from advising business clients on their government interactions to acting for regulatory agencies, including the NSW Crime Commission, NSW Roads and Traffic Authority and NZ Commerce Commission.
Nikki is also an experienced trainer and an accredited NLP practitioner. She founded the Australasian legal skills training business, Legal Empowerment, and is one of the teachers of the NZ Law Society’s annual Introduction to High Court Civil Litigation entry level programme.
Off-duty, Nikki will be found hanging out with Steve Douché and their daughter, Phoebe (born 2010). She loves to dance, cook, read, travel and knit (don’t knock it!) and is also an avid follower of political, economic and social issues.
